Skill Evaluations 2/11 & 2/25
Skills Evaluations Details
Registration for the RHLL Spring 2024 Baseball Season is open at rhbaseball.org/registration. Registration closes for AA, AAA and Majors divisions at 11:59 PM on Saturday, February 25th. Families who register their player after that date and time will pay a $35 late fee. Please read the information below about RHLL skills evaluations:
WHAT?
Reston-Herndon Little League will be holding its annual skills evaluations on Sunday, February 11 in the South Lakes High School gymnasium between 8 AM and 12:30 PM and Sunday, February 25th at Franklin Middle School between 9 AM and 12:30 PM. Players should wear sneakers (no cleats!) and comfortable clothes, bring their gloves and their batting helmet. Bats will be provided and helmets will be available for those who do not have their own helmet. Please do not bring your players own bat. If there is a weather cancellation, an adjusted schedule for skills evaluations will be announced.
WHO?
All players born between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2016 are required to attend one of the scheduled evaluation sessions in order to be evaluated for placement in AA, AAA or Majors. Advanced players born between September 1, 2016 and August 31, 2017 (League Age 7) must also participate in evaluations if they want to be considered for the AA level of play.
Note that the Little League “league age” definition can be determined at https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/.
WHY?
Little League regulations require that every player playing AA and higher be assessed prior to placement. The purpose of the evaluation is to assist the Player Agents and League Commissioners in properly placing players at the level most appropriate for their skills and experience. The skills evaluation also helps the team managers’ plan for the AA, AAA, and Major league drafts. All players at AA, AAA, and Majors are selected for their teams through a draft process by the managers.
WHAT DO THE EVALUATIONS CONSIST OF?
Players will be evaluated on their fielding, throwing and hitting skills. Players may be asked to demonstrate pitching skills. It is probably a good idea to spend some time working on these skills prior to the evaluation. It may not be a good idea for the evaluation to be the first time the player has picked up a baseball or glove since last spring or last fall.
HOW CAN MY CHILD DO WELL AT THE EVALUATION?
Arrive 15 minutes before your evaluations window. Wear appropriate baseball or exercise attire, arrive with plenty of time to sign in and do some light stretching. Relax, have fun, and do your best!
WHEN AND WHERE?
Sunday, February 11th in the South Lakes High School Gym, South Lakes HS, 11400 S Lakes Dr, Reston, VA 20191. Please park in the west parking lot on the football field side, and follow the signs to the evaluation entrance.
Sunday, February 25th at Franklin Middle School, 3300 Lees Corner Rd, Chantilly, VA 20151
CAN I OBSERVE THE EVALUATION PROCESS?
We limit the evaluations to as few people as possible – League Officials, Managers (or their proxy), and volunteers assisting with evaluations. Not only does this provide a less stressful environment for the players, it helps keep the flow of the process moving along during two very busy days. It also helps keep the number of distractions to a minimum.
WHAT IF I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO PLAY BASEBALL, BUT HAS NOT YET REGISTERED? CAN THEY ATTEND THE SKILLS EVALUATION?
Yes! Walk-in registration will be available for players who have not yet registered – but pre-registration is much preferred. Be sure to tell all your friends and neighbors! Players must be registered for the RHLL Spring 2023 Baseball Season at the time of skills evaluations. Registration fees must be paid at the time of the skills evaluation.
RHLL understands that some families in our community have financial needs. If your family needs assistance with payment of registration fees, please reply to this email. RHLL will provide families assistance with registration fees.
TIME SLOTS
Evaluations are split by age as our primary interest is keeping players of the same age group in the same evaluation groups. If you cannot make your assigned time please try to make a time slot for players of the same age as your ballplayer or as close to your assigned time slot as possible. The most important thing, however, is that your ballplayer participates
